Re: General April Weather
running 1.9c above average so far here for April
so a few cooler days is a change
but then with the mild easterlies to return , its going to end up being yet again another much warmer than average month
(continuing the trend as expected with La Nina and warm oceans and background warming)

Re: General April Weather
Beautiful clear day here today after a cool start, up to 19°C at one point, now 14.2°C.
Observing interesting little mares' tails clouds to the north-west and west just now.

Re: General April Weather
162 days was a great run. Might just scrape through another week or so longer down here as my station made 21C today.. I'm sure the early November start makes this run fairly unusual.

Fine day today with a light NE.
Today's maximum was 17.4C.
Off to Central Otago this WE. Should be good weather down there.

Re: General April Weather
Down to 1.9 here. Still not quite low enough for ice to form on the ground. I was really hoping for a light frost to kill off the summer weeds and grasses.

Much of next week looks warm for the time of year but with some unsettled weather then early signs of a period of cool weather for NZ.

Low 3.1 after a high of 21.6 yesterday. The last few days have featured some of the larger diurnal temperature swings have recorded for some time.

Re: General April Weather
It has been a fine sunny easter here so far, breeze picking up here now. Rain/showers with possible thunder for the upper North Island for a couple of days from tomorrow, turning humid, 20C dewpoints on the way.

Re: General April Weather
Grass is wilting again on the clay hills and browning off on the flats. Gutted! Turning into a real prick of a autumn.

Re: General April Weather
Yeah I went down to Hunua falls for a walk yesterday and noticed how dry the hills of the surrounding countryside were. Might catch some decent rain here tomorrow, GFS showing around 50mm

Re: General April Weather
Sure is dry out there. The lawn may be growing fairly well now but only because it's sheltered and part shaded.
This was 24 April 2020, while by early March that year it was dangerously dry, it actually had got going by now. Nowhere have I seen grass like this during travels this weekend.

Think it’s safe to see that scenario was completely wrong… even 10mm looks like a stretch

Re: General April Weather
My station's run ended today at 166 days with high only 18.6C. Unless there was a break in the clouds over official site Ruakura I'd say it ended there today also.cbm wrote:162 days was a great run. Re: General April Weather
I see Auckland Council's Claris Aero site on Great Barrier Island apparently recorded gusts to 189.7 km/h (52.7 m/s) around 10:30pm last night. Sounds a little unbelievable to me...

Re: General April Weather
it was windy there last night, going by this site
http://www.clarisweather.co.nz/data.html
that Auckland council station recorded strong winds in the last blow too
but i wonder if they have the units wrong (i.e it says m/s but it should be knots?)

That would certainly make more sense. Whangaparaoa only recorded peak gusts of 91 km/h during the hour to 11pm last night.
Unfortunately that Claris PWS (also at the airport) appears to be missing wind data from about 9:20pm last night to about 12:40am this morning. But it did only record peak gusts to 57 km/h (31 kt) at 7:58pm last night.

Re: General April Weather
the wind sensor is wireless and sometimes the electronics of the airport interferes with the reception
