MetService Website 2022
I see that they have updated their weather maps and rain radar images pages.
What do members of the forum think of the new format?
They have a little survey thing on the rain radar/ weather map page.
I find the rain radar is a bit jittery looking? but then...
As far as the forecast maps go, why do they cut off the bottom left hand corner of them, instead of the right-hand side.
Surely with a forecast map, you want to see what is coming rather than what has gone?

Re: MetService Website 2022
I don't bother with the new radar/weather maps. I just use the thumbnails underneath. Not sure why someone thought that was a good idea - maybe just justifying their job.

Re: MetService Website 2022
you gain much more information on what rain bands are doing using the animation compared to static image thumbnails surely

Agree, the replay now runs through unnecessarily fast in my opinion.NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote: ↑Sun 15/05/2022 18:49 ... I find the rain radar is a bit jittery looking? ...

Re: MetService Website 2022
Why doesn't MS update their "Short" forecast on the hour instead of various times during the day.?
Quite often you hear after the news on RNZ, the forecast contains a forecast that has already happened, eg, rain with possible thunderstorms when you know that thunderstorm activity finished a couple of hours ago or some showers when the weather is clearing and no more rain is likely?

The site is TERRIBLE to use on mobile devices. Constant full page adverts on every page. Ridiculous

You can use a browser app called Brave which blocks ads

Thanks, I just can't understand why they only have them on the mobile site.

Yes. I use Brave but it does tend to block out rain radar imagery on the MS Website as well.

Re: MetService Website 2022
I use Firefox with AdBlock Plus and uBlock installed (PC and Android). Works a treat, I never see any ads and nothing important is lost. It's always a shock when I see Metservice's site on another browser and I find out how much advertising I'm being shielded from. It's a shocker alright.
On an aside, has anyone noticed lately that MetService's "120 km" radar images are extremely slow to load? "300 km" images are fine, but "120 km" almost unusable.
