General June Weather

Looks like an interesting start for winter with deep lows forecasted for the Tasman Sea next week.
Could be some mild temperatures around for the commencement of winter.

For those areas of NZ with exposure to the north and west the first week/10 days of June looks quite thundery. Fairly typical of Winter to have the periods of unstable weather coming off the Tasman Sea.

Possible thunder for Auckland overnight tonight and again on Thursday with the upper level cold air moving in.

I like that.
I remember in February I was outside doing a BBQ dinner but wearing an overcast and long trousers with a jersey on and drinking cocoa to keep warm on an overcast claggy day. Shows you climate change. Crazy!

An active day skyward with overthrow showers moving across from the west.
Noticed some flashing/lightning to the west when walking back from the pub tonight.
Today's maximum was 17.1C with NW winds today.

Sounds about right, in my data I’m seeing 17.7C mean yesterday vs 11.8C as the average daily mean for 1 June over the last 12 years.

It is interesting to compare NZ weather with southern parts of Australia next week, NZ in the warm flow while southern Australia is stuck in the cold flow. Chch will have a warmer week next week than Adelaide. However there is big cold outbreak for NZ the following week if the current models prove near correct.

Some rain pre dawn and early this morning but clearing away to become a sunny fine day with not much wind.
Today's maximum was 13.9C with only 3mm in the gauge from this morning's rain.

Winter temperatures for Auckland today, currently 14C, overcast, some light precipitation. Tomorrow looks a better day.
A thunderstorm risk is showing for late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

A cold day eventuated here today as the cold air remained trapped under a NW sky with an Arch, after the overnight frost.
7.7C the maximum for today with hardly any wind. A bit of smog around from wood fires.
