Re: General June Weather
so its nearly July and Mt Ruapehu is still needing another dump of snow for some parts of the Ski fields?
and nothing really coming going by the models for the next 10 days?
ps, 213mm here for June
soil moisture levels just handled that
shows how much we really needed that

Re: General June Weather
Strong upper level trough coming through later today. Quite a strong SW change aswel. Some hail likely over the plains with snow to reasonably low levels 2-300m possible aswel. not much in the way of settling though.

Re: General June Weather
Bloody useless here. Wind through around a quarter to seven this evening. 3 flashes toward the Mt. Peel area and that was it.
Calm now with some high cloud.

Re: General June Weather
After a frosty start this morning, high cloud moved in from the west with a NW looking sky for much of the day.
Cold this morning with the high cloud cover but cloud gradually thinned away with the sun shining through and warming up the temperature for a while this afternoon. Today's maximum was 13.4C. Southerly through just before 7pm but nothing much eventuated from it despite the forecasts.
Calm evening.

Re: General June Weather
Another exceptionally warm, if not a little volatile June overall.
Preliminary stats for the main centres:
MetService June 2022 Brief Summary – Severe weather in charge
Aotearoa New Zealand experienced a very rough June, with a higher than usual frequency of intense weather systems spawning over both the Tasman Sea and Southern Ocean. It was a volatile, windy and very wet June for northern and western regions of both Islands.
It was the wettest June on record for Wanaka (116mm) at the Airport record since 1992. It was the second wettest June on record for Rotorua (241mm) and Taupo (159mm), in observations since 1963 and 1976 respectively. Tauranga (256mm) experienced its 5th wettest June in a long climate record starting 1910. Levin, Palmerston North, Nelson and Blenheim totals were also notably large.
In contrast, eastern areas of both Islands ran somewhat drier than normal, affected by the prevailing northwesterly winds. Meanwhile, Southland saw closer to normal June precipitation totals.
Temperature-wise, nationally, the month of June ended up on the warm side of the ledger. The notable exceptions were Otago and Southland, with near average monthly temperatures. However, the ‘warmer than normal June’ message doesn’t really capture the volatile temperatures seen during the month. Temperatures hit 20-21C on 1 June in Auckland, Coromandel, Waikato and Bay of Plenty, while Dunedin broke its coldest June temperature (-8.6C) on 23 June. There were several heavy snowfall events across the South Island, producing an excellent start to the ski season.
