Yesterdays snowfall was quite a contrast against this mornings West Coast storms.

It is snowing in Central and yet this is what the Metservice said:
"Rain at times, with snow to about 800 metres, clearing this evening. Strong northerlies, easing this evening."

Re: Major Cold System 10-15th June.
This short and sharp thunderstorm came ashore a couple of hours ago here at Tongaporutu where I'm hunkering down at the bach. Silly me decided to go out for a walk during a break in the weather and I got caught out by this fast moving cell. Looking at the photo I can't help feeling that there was the beginnings of a waterspout trying to form, but I was more interested in trying to find a cave to shelter in at the time so I can't be sure. However the storm came with an extremely intense blast of wind and almost zero visibility, so there might have been something like that going on.
Another pic of the cell as it departed a short time later:

Photos and webcams show snow blanketing Cromwell and Wanaka, both just over 200m altitude.
Had a shower in Chch this afternoon, after dark threatening skies for several hours.

Another cell passing just to my north a few minutes ago, no sign of capping at all...

A pretty nice afternoon here considering the broader situation. Photo of distant cumulonimbus this afternoon

So dark and overcast; have had lights on indoors all day, street-lights were on before 4:30pm.
Raining on and off, half-expecting to hear it rattle at times.
Currently 7.2°C.

Just got back from a drive up to Lake Sumner, today's snow level much higher than yesterday, lake levels are very high as would be expected after so much rain.

Caught a funnel cloud which turned into a probable tornado (trees down), came ashore at Waikanae, photographed from Paraparaumu Beach at 3.30pm this arvo.

I was up at Lake Clearwater for most of today, sleet, but hardly a breath of wind all day. I don’t know what happened to the 120km/h gales

Incredible line of thunderstorms passing just to the north of Wellington City just before 6pm. At most 15seconds between lightning from multiple separate cells. Most of the time it was 5-10 seconds. Rain radar from the time period.

I did
What a feast of thunderstorm activity over the last 4 days that we have been here, including a bright flash yesterday morning around 1am when I looked out of the window that blinded me as how bright it was.
Landed somewhere in the Upper Hutt area somewhere. No reports of damage.
