A bit of rain/drizzle overnight but clearing away this morning to become a blue dome day here with not much wind. A bit of a southerly this morning but nothing much to write home about. Today's maximum was 9C. Becoming frosty this evening.
Line of cloud along the coast.

Latest ECMWF forecast is putting approx 80mm on the ground in Christchurch next Monday through to Wednesday. I really think if that amount of rain falls there could be some major problems around Christchurch and Canterbury in general with flooding...

Great! Even the drizzle that fell the other day caused ponding in my yard. The ground is totally saturated.

Rain gauge update: I’ve bought the new VP2 tipping spoon mechanism and aerocone which supposedly improve accuracy. Also bought a little bubble level to see if the station has moved and is no longer level. So once I get the new stuff here and installed I’ll continue the comparisons in the months ahead.

For the month to date the manual gauge is around 189mm vs 144mm on the VP2. Haven’t noticed many wind effects, sometimes the discrepancy has even been bigger during gentle winds

Some talk on social media about a severe cold snap at the end of the month, I just can’t see it on either GFS or ECMWF, been a few runs over the past 24 hours with nothing showing…

There have also been some GFS and ECMWF runs which do show it. There are other indicators than just these operational models which lend weight to the idea.

A grey overcast wet day with a total of 58.8mm of rain falling. Easterly winds and 8.3C for a maximum.
The cleaning out of the soakpits were successful with not much pooling of water on out street today.

It' has been a very quiet Winter for thunderstorms here. There is some thunderstorm potential with the system crossing tomorrow morning.

Another 10.5mm in my manual gauge since 9am yesterday, with 230 accumulated this month. Easily the wettest month in the last 4 years.

I’ve got my new rain gauge equipment so will be looking to get that installed soon

Another 9mm of rain overnight before easing off and gradually clearing away this morning.
Cloudy afternoon but there were some sunny breaks which made it nice in the conservatory.
Today's maximum was 12.9C with light winds from the south.
