That’ll be yet another East Coast Low that’s going to flood my dad on the NSW east coast for the 4th time this year… the model numbers are pumping out huge amounts of rainfall for him so it will be interesting to see what impact it has on NZ.

Frosty start to the month in Chch, plus a dusting of snow on Mt Herbert. (1st I've seen this year)

Snow potential looks to be increasing for mid to late next week. Ruapehu may get the fall of snow it needs.

Dont see 20C forecast in July very often as Whangarei and Auckland have for this Friday, when it's not due to a foen effect.

Here it is out my front window! It has ever so slowly crept north throughout the morning. I wish it would hurry up, it’s quite chilly!

Covered the sky here this morning withholding the cold temperatures from the frost overnight but cleared away to the north and the sun warmed the day up.

Starting to suspect my station has been under reading on rainfall somehow (was calibrated years ago so not sure how).

Put the manual gauge out for this latest event and it picked up 35mm. Weather station showed 26mm. Pretty big discrepancy! 😕

36mm here yesterday.
Very moist air showing up for Friday, dew point will be around 17C here, some of the showers might be heavy on Friday but upper level temperatures are very warm this week.

I run my manual one within 30m of my electronic gauge all year round so I am always on top of an incorrect reading. It can vary massively tho. I can have +/- up to 5mm on rainfalls like we had. For example yesterdays event was 34mm electronic and 30mm manual. However it can easily go the opposite. On a event 70mm it can get close to 10mm difference each way.

Apparently it was a warm day in Timaru yesterday with 18.3C. Not that warm here even though a light westerly was blowing.
