Yep too right Richard, looking like a very active couple of days. Otago presently pretty wet as well. Snow is mostly back on the hills and mountains not down to the basins like inland Canterbury. Freezing level looks to be well above current snow levels. Unfortunately a lot of melt and rain off looks likely.

Its that mid Canterbury that has snow lower down, and that's where most of the rain is likely to fall too, not good. Its that 150kmph that is a worry for here, how far east that wind speed gets is the question

Was awoken at 2:30am by the noise of the gale arriving.
Still too dark to see out but can hear shrubs etc hissing in the wind and feel the vibration of it in the house.
12.5°C at the moment.

Gusting to 85kph in Ashburton at the moment according to MS. It’s very loud, quite the roar if you are brave enough to poke your head out the front door.

This has to be the strongest winds we’ve had in Ashburton for a number of years. Lots of banging and bashing outside now. Kids aren’t impressed at all.

The worst of the wind seems to be coming through here at the moment, largest gust @11:15, 62.3 km/h.Fearing for some garden plants, but it is what it is.
Can't imagine what it's like in more exposed areas,it must be horrendous.
I'm expecting to hear the fire brigade siren if this gets any worse.

We’re gusting to 115kph in Ashburton at the moment. Lots of branches flying down the road. Lucky my garden gets neglected in winter anyway!
