I'm at a loss as to why this hasn't been upgraded from a Watch to a warning to be honest.

I have seen "avo" as an abbreviation for "avocado".
Does "avo" mean "avalanche"?
Respectfully, I think correct terminology is important.

Sorry for offence caused but I am a tramper and a mountain man and avo is a daily used word.

^ Respectfully, those unfamiliar with the territory will be most in need of the correct word.

Tipped out 30.5mm in my manual gauge this morning, for this event.

The models just aren't showing rainfall greater than 50mm within 6 hours or 100mm within 24 hours for Christchurch area so based on that criteria only (obviously not taking into account saturated ground) then I guess that makes them technically correct...

If the rain intensity does increase as forecast this afternoon, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a State of Emergency declared for Christchurch.

Gusty easterly now blowing in Ashburton, rain gradually getting heavier.

So far the heavier rainfall in South Canterbury seems more confined to Coastal areas Rather than inland, most foothill Ecan gauge's showing less than 35mm today, Persistent moderate rain here since late last night with 32mm so far. Lots of surface water around here but nothing noteworthy yet.

Its absolutely thumping down here at Lincoln Uni. Suspect Civil Defence is going to be busy tonight. Looking at the Ecan gauges it won't be surprising to see many of the ChCh and peninsula sites over 100mm for the 24 hours- too late to bother with a warning now I guess

Rain band looks to be mainly lingering now south of CHCH thank goodness. If it had lined up with the metservice 3 hourly model forecast then it would have spelt real trouble.

I concur.
Just hit over 60mm for the event so far, expecting just light drizzle for the rest of the night as the system moves away.

Hopefully no death occurred from this, but if, why didn't MS issue a red warning in the first place to cover their whatsits!
Lots of water around here from today's rain, the street didn't seem to flood as the local council did a bit of work on the soakpits.
40mm so far.

Heaviest rain of the day here last 30 mins. Pelting down! If this stalls we are in trouble as a city.

Yes the past 90 minutes has been the wettest I've seen it today. Fairly widespread falls too by the radar

Check out the Ecan gauges. Akaroa, Duvauchelle, Cust and Kainga have past 100mm in the past 24 hours. A few more sites round greater Chch might join them at the current rate of falls.

Edit I was wrong re Cust,, my apologies- just under 100mm there but several urban sites are now into the 80s

Rain rates have increased significantly in the last hour now, replacing the constant drizzle.
Very concerning, considering I was convinced that the system was moving away to the south west. :-k
