NIWA Waiau CWS was on 23.9deg, but I dont think its totally accurate given it location near buildings and concrete pathways

With another 300+mm or rain still to come over the next few days according to many models, I am baffled as to why Nelson/Tasman hasn’t been issued a red warning.
Yes a RED warning has been issued in your region now.

A windy night here and we are fairly sheltered to the NE at my place, light to mod rain, currently 16C, dew point 15C.

we are relatively sheltered from the NE wind here but I hear from locals who arent that it was bad
the models show it could strengthen again this afternoon
I see that the Waikato is warmer than Auckland area currently
so there must be a small Fohn effect downwind of the coromandel range (0.5c)

20mm of light to moderate rain so far. Really don’t see 100mm+ occurring but let’s see

Really don’t see 100mm+ occurring but let’s see
note that is for the entire rain period, i.,e 24 hours still to go
and the rain radar shows still plenty of more rain moving south
the temperature is increasing, so that means heavy rain potential
so I suspect this afternoon /tonight it will get really going
(actually heavier here now , and across the Auckland area too)

Just 12mm so far in my manual gauge. NE winds have been relentless here though. I think Tiritiri has been gusting to 100 km/h.

Aug Tmin records trumped again for the 24 hrs to 9am this morn at Auckland Aero, Mangere and Whangarei City....

Here's a comparison of the flooding on Avon Tce in Nelson with a Google Street view of the same place under normal conditions. Holy hell.

Touwai AWS currently matching it at 143mm/24Hr

Aorere and Buckland Peaks gauges have tipped out over 600mm so far to lead the pack in Buller

600mm at Cropp and Tuke in Westland

Nelson/ Tasman 762 Anatoki, 540mm Takaka (Canaan)

Much more to come too it seems

I think Buller and Westland have 'dodged the bullet" with this event with Nelson city copping the most of it?

I see Ricky's Grey Lynn PWS also had a Tmin of 15.6C yesterday and 15.0C the day before, beating it's previous highest Aug Tmin over the last 20 years of 14.3C in 2010. Today might also be Auckland and Whangarei's 3rd consecutive day of record Aug Tmins.

Just 26mm here for this event so far. MS had gusts to 96 km/h at Whangaparaoa yesterday arvo.

I see Kerikeri Aero also recorded 161mm yesterday, on top of 45mm the day before.

90mm at Woodbourne for this event so far, 50mm from PWS around Blenheim so we were right on the edge of the rain bands.
GFS predicting another 60mm over weekend here and yet another rain event on Thursday
