found this on niwa about a tornado in northland in 1942 26 August. in kaitaia.

im not sure if this was mentioned on here so i thought i should post this as i think it may be the first recorded tornado fatality.

This is the first record I have found of a Tornado in NZ

No deaths but given the description its sounded pretty eventful!

Then there was the Frankton tornado in Hamilton in 1948.
