Down to 3-4C for Auckland this morning, one of the colder mornings of the year.
Model outlook suggests September will be a little more unsettled than normal?

Re: General September Weather
Nice to see Tawhirimatea showing signs of instability today, with forms of Cumulus about and a few isolated heavy showers.
It remained mostly dry at work apart from some breif large drops of rain mid afternoon.
I'm looking forward to the rest of spring and the coming summer storm season.

Re: General September Weather
It has been a mostly sunny settled start to Spring here.
Some thunder risk showing for here on Monday, see how it looks on the day.
I see a thunder risk is showing for the eastern South Island on Tuesday.

NZstorms thunderstorm forecasting was always very good .mikestormchaser wrote: ↑Sun 11/09/2022 12:35 It's nice to see you carrying on the great NZstorms legacy and mentioning the thunder risks around the country spwill.

See what can develop over Canterbury Tuesday, the classic Canterbury Plains thunderstorm set up has a northeasterly ahead of the main wind change from the south.

Yes he is very much missed and taught me alot on model guidance. Its nice to see others putting their opinions a across and challenging their accuracy.spwill wrote: ↑Sun 11/09/2022 20:14NZstorms thunderstorm forecasting was always very good .mikestormchaser wrote: ↑Sun 11/09/2022 12:35 It's nice to see you carrying on the great NZstorms legacy and mentioning the thunder risks around the country spwill.

The set up ovsr Canterbury tues has a NW before the change but that doesnt always mean a bust day
But yes a NE inflow is what we prefer to see for supercell days

Hello John - you certainly seem to have had a mild winter. What are the current sunrise and sunset times in Geraldine?
Did you get any snow in the recent cold outbreak?

Good CAPE but poor lifting mechanism here yesterday for thunder. Did see some big Cbs to the south in the afternoon, just a couple of light showers for my location.
