A Tasman Sea low pressure system for the start of October.
Looks like a wet weekend coming up for Auckland, gusty easterlies with rain on Saturday, showers for Sunday.

Moist air over the upper North Island next 4 days with some upper level cooling, some heavy showers in the mix, possibly even a thunderstorm. See how the models look each day. Some convergence is modelled for the Waikato later today.

Bad news for horticulture if that very cold air eventuates next week.

Good growing weather here now after some rather cold September nights.

Tomorrow morning and afternoon looking unstable over northern NZ, heavy showers and a thunder risk there

Very wet day here for mid spring with 44mm on my station so far, which is now the highest daily total in October for any year since 2010 (inclusive). Previous record being 39mm. Looks like most of it's gone through now.

Only light precipitation here today, the day lacked heating and convergence, a later time of year has the sea breezes.
The dewpoint temperature has been around 15-16C here last few days, will be below 0C on Thursday.

There must be a mongrel of a NE on the Canterbury plains as there's quite a cold NE breeze here this morning, not often we get them this strong.

That is interesting, often its works like that.
The wind here will die and swing to the west at some stage today

A beautiful NW arch over the alps looking from Ashburton at the moment. A very well defined, crisp edge along it. Lovely day so far, 22 degrees.

A much more stable looking outlook now. Usually by mid October more ridging starts to appear over northern NZ and the cold upper troughs slip to the south.

Rain overnight turning to snow early this morning. about half a cm on the ground. All disappeared by midday.
Fine afternoon with a NW to westerly blowing before the 2nd cold front moved through around a quarter past 4, with some wintry hail and 3 bits of sleet. Clearing away later although looking rather cloudy towards the Mt. Peel with some interesting mammatus forms later on this afternoon.
Cold South to SW winds this evening with clear skies apart from some bits of cloud around.
Today's maximum was 11.7C in sunny conditions this afternoon with a total of 16.7mm of a mixture of rain hail and snow.

Such a joy to have the howling easterlies back (heavy dose of sarcasm). They really did ruin last summer for me here in Halswell
