Re: General October Weather
Quite a contrast in temps coming back from CHCH this afternoon, 15-16deg CHCH and 23 deg here.
Yes Monday is starting to look interesting for thunder chances

Re: General October Weather
Yes, a chance of thunderstorms for both Islands Monday. Looking at the North Island there is currently convergence + moist air with some upper level cooling modelled for Monday afternoon. The negative is the rain feature in the BOP and how much cloud that will generate. See how this looks Monday morning.

Re: General October Weather
Mondays set up looks OK but iv seen better. You might be a very good spot if storms get going Richard.
The winds at the surface look very shifty which I like and the shear at 500mb 40 knts is quite good in north Canterbury so that could get thunderstorms to tilt if they can Fire.
Iv got Monday off to chase should things get going. will head out with Steve and Aaron.

Re: General October Weather
Looks thunderstormic down inland Otago/Southland way.
Nothing here although some clouding did look interesting to the west, today.

Re: General October Weather
Cloudy but warm day here with light variable winds.
Interesting skies by the photos above including a thick pink ray extending out around sunset time, one extending NE ward and the other NW ward.
Today's maximum was 23.4C.

Re: General October Weather
Just looking at tomorrow, convergence area looks to be now best inland from Waimak gorge up through Oxford, Rangiora.
Upper jet is 35kts at 4pm pushing down from the north so cells may spread out east over the city and Amberley etc.
Upper air isn't overly cold but other layers are variable and the convergence is the strong point.
Hail 15mm maximum but perhaps localised heavy falls.

Re: General October Weather
4pm sounding tomorrow taken just west of Christchurch city.
Definitely unstable, but it's the dew point that looks good at the surface 9.3 DP but I think this sounding could be under playing that. Probably more 11 degree DP and the temperature line more up around the 21-22 degrees.
The wind at higher levels and at the surface are very favorable tomorrow aswel.
Should be some thunder tomorrow looking at that

Re: General October Weather
Looking like some very heavy rain coming down towards central Auckland. I'm on 47mm for the day here.
