That's just for the Airport/City. MS have lower temps elsewhere for tomorrow night, including 2C for Hunua (Ardmore) and Pukekohe. :-)

Good brief heavy snow at work in west Christchurch before big flakes too, probably about 40m asl near the airport.
Currently light snow, is this abit of advection with the front?
If it's able to do this now then tonight should be interesting with much colder air.

Getting sleety snow showers here, but no sign of it accumulating presently.Seems to be melting as soon as it touches the ground. Some of the showers however are fairly decent affairs.

Edit:
Showers have stopped now @11.40.
Noticing that the main bulk of the event was during the time the wind was directly from the south and abated as the wind moved more southwesterly.

Yes this was the clearance, Will see how warm it can get before the trough this afternoon for the risk of thunder/hail later. Surface temperature is expected to be 6C when the change hits but if it can get up to 10C or there abouts things could be exciting.. given how cold aloft the air is

Yes this was the clearance, Will see how warm it can get before the trough this afternoon for the risk of thunder/hail later given 500mb temps are very cold
Perhaps a chance of thundersnow inland?

We had a decent snow shower in Mosgiel between midday and 12.30 pm. Big wet snowflakes but didn't settle. The sun is back out now.

Shows that John must be still bed :
Hey, i just got up and the sun is shining brightly. no snow around. :?:
Just having you on. Got up around 7:30 am to get the paper. To my surprise there was snow on the ground but nothing much to make a snowman, sadly, so I went back to bed for a while reading the paper.
Most of the snow had gone by lunchtime and now it is fine and sunny with a bit of a NW, but only 8C.
Might be some 'snow-thunder' with the next bout of wintry weather depending on the heating. :-w

Beautiful sunshine however I can see the change to the south in the distance. Some ‘bubbles’ appear to be forming well ahead of the main front. A couple of hours of heating before it gets here.

Gone back to a NW wind again here, sun briefly came out which was lovely and warm out of the breeze.
