A sort of fine day with a NW rainband to the west along the Alps and gusty NW winds, now and then.
Warm with it getting up to 27.1C for today.
No overthrow showers here, but there were a few spits around 7pm..

Southerly wind change seems to have arrived here much earlier than expected. Temp is stable at 15.5 c at the moment. Lower level cloud developing but it’s all moving in different directions - not in the ‘typical’ way it does during a wind change. Weird.

It was 19c when I got up this morning. Sun barely poking through the clouds here now. Amazing how it can be so different an hour up the road.

Exactly what I came here to post - wind all round the compass: watching the neighbour's chimney-cowl, it's swung through ENE to easterly to southerly, and back, all in the past few minutes. Still doing it.
Temp. up and down too as the sun comes out from behind low clouds which seem to be coming across from the west or north-west... 0_o

Such a strange day! Really weird. I can’t see us making the forecasted 25c unless the wind changes to the NW again…

Edit to add - My partner is working in Pendarves, currently 23c and hardly any wind.

I can understand the confusion in contrast across the region today, I had towering cumulus at work this morning and some very big fat rain drops for abit.
Then a gusty gale force westerly until 2pm when it went southerly, however not too far inland from here it's stayed westerly all afternoon.
The strong westerly has been confined to inland while the southerly snuck along the coastline.

This is the first time since early May we've had a high pressure system that has or is lasting more than 3 days, not too common for November either.
The typical clagg will plague the coastlines with those pesky NE winds, a few showers Tuesday and Thursday across the plains.
A slight reprieve from what has been a very busy year for systems, I suspect December will become much more unsettled too.

I would argue it’s very common for November. November is my driest month on average. Often early summer ridging starts in November and we can’t get next to no rain all month.

Been to Christchurch today to attend a railways reunion and the weather was basically a claggy day with low cloud with the occasional drizzle shower between Geraldine and ChCh and off course the usual easterly blowing in Christchurch making conditions rather cool for the time of year.
Some drizzle here with 0.6mm in the rain gauge.

I must have been in a different Christchurch then, spent a few hours yesterday running round the hills over Sumner and it was a very pleasant sunny afternoon

Perhaps some interesting weather for NZ this weekend with moist air + day time heating leading to some afternoon shower/thunderstorm development in places. Have see how the upper level cooling tracks and where the convergences will set up, just something to watch at this stage.

Interesting? We were at Parklands yesterday north New Brighton. The sun did come out on the odd occasion but it mainly cloudy with the ENE blowing.
