Nice fine and clear evening to witness the eclipse which is happening at the moment. When it is totally covered, apparently you may see Uranus around the top of it if you use binoculars or telescope, so I was told.
Anyway today was a fine day with some cloud around. Winds were NE which was quite moderate to fresh here at times to Geraldine standards.
Warm though with today's maximum being 22.3C. despite the easterly.

No eclipse seen here thanks to about 17mm from about midday yesterday.

Whangarei Aero appears to have copped the worst of it with 102mm in the last 24 hours or so, followed by 54mm at Kerikeri Aero.

The eclipse was brilliant last night. The clouds peeled away for superb viewing. I though I'd chip in with this picture

Observed the eclipse until around 11pm, then let it continue unsupervised. Great clear night for viewing.

There is a towering cloud away to the WSW from here, bits of blue and red showing up on rain radar at the moment.

Temp. currently 19.8°C, fresh south-easterly breeze, sunny with varied high clouds.

Yes, looks to correspond with the small purple blob on MS's 24 hr rainfall accumulation radar graphic posted earlier this morn.

Must've been pretty torrential there yesterday, even for Northland. Herald also reports flooding, trees down and power outages in that area north Whangarei yesterday.

Fine day after last night's eclipse of the moon.
Warm in the sun this afternoon with one or 2 clouds going up to the west and gradually clouding over later in the afternoon with it coming onto drizzle this evening. 24.5C for today but cooling down after the southerly moved over.

Looking good up your way Richard on Saturday afternoon/evening for thunderstorms, a wee trough converging down from the north brings instability following earlier scattered rain.
Sunday has a slight risk maybe low for Canterbury, but some good localised heavy rain Timaru up to Banks Peninsula.
Christchurch hasn't had much rain the last few weeks, most of it including the storm days has passed just west and north.
So a few top ups coming will be welcome.

The front is through here now, 32mm here. The easterly will prevent us from getting a thunderstorm this afternoon. See what convergence can develop over Northland this afternoon. Big CAPE numbers in the GFS for western Northland this afternoon.

I'm thinking it's going to be the day that most of the action stays in the foothills aswel. Showers should spread across the plains though later.

See some storms for the north island today too. Esp.eastern north island, napier/ hawksbay should see some action
