Some good drizzle/ light rain today so far just adding the extra rain we need, and some good totals tomorrow.
It looks like Sunday now the best spot will be from mid canterbury northwards especially north canterbury for thunderstorms and hail.
Also next week I'm seeing both Wednesday and Thursday very good set ups for thunderstorms, cold upper air too something to watch.

Rain watch for the plains is now a warning. Totals appear to have doubled since the watch was issued this morning.

Expecting 46.7mm of rain here tomorrow ?

Steady to heavy rain here is being driven by a 35kmh easterly, roads starting to surface flood already.
Looks to be the more torrential rain band up near Kaikoura currently so once that comes down there might be some flooding issues for the city.
Just looking at numbers for tomorrow, inland and to the north looks best although again we do see the shower cell activity spill east onto the plains and or develop there too potentially.
Near Simular set up to last Saturday, west to east movement.

A rather wet day here today with a total of 63.3mm falling to 10pm tonight.
I wouldn't call the rain heavy but constant or steady.
Temperature between 12C and 14C for today with an easterly wind turning southerly later on.
Not much water lying around as this the first significant rainfall we have had here for a while.
Models showing some thunderstorm activity on cold fronts next week judging by surface weather patterns? S

The intermittent thunder and horizontal rain’s a wee bit exciting but other than that I’m well over Auckland’s endless downpours. We’re not even getting the week on/week off pattern at the mo. I know it’s Auckland and spring and all that but can anyone give me some hope for a sunny break anytime soon? Gonna end up with webbed feet at this rate lol

At last the thunderstorm drought broke today with series of thunderstorms moving from the west this afternoon across the plains.
No hail here but we got 8.1mm from steady rain from these 'thundery showers' which eased off around 6pm this evening but remaining overcast.
19C the maximum for today. NE winds today.

Wednesday looks sunny with showers more isolated.
It is the most unstable November weather I can remember, more thunderstorms and downpours possible tomorrow.

Nov 2020 was also quite unsettled but yes, unusual for November. Usually one my driest months with 67mm average. Have accumulated 100mm over the past fortnight.

Ended up with 62mm in Halswell over the weekend. Strong Easterly killed any Sunday afternoon storms for us

Blandswood down around Peel Forest seems to have copped the highest with 180mm, no doubt strongly enhanced by Sundays stationary TS cell

Generally stable southwest flow is the most common pattern for Auckland in November apart from some La Nina years.

Incredibly well defined rain band moving accross all of Canterbury - raining heavily in Lincoln right now. Quite a sight on the rain radar

It really caught me off guard. Unusual to see it so well defined. Very cool.

Interesting all right.
We were in Temuka where it was quite gloomy and overcast and wet but back in Geraldine, the streets were dry.

The shower band line moved over from the NW very quickly, was the frontal band crossing with a NE converging with upper level NW movement.
The MS picked this in thier outlook with a low risk of thunder 👍, there was instability as mamatus clouds formed as it passed over.
Keeping a close watch on Thursday for afternoon/ evening thunderstorms hail, the first time I will say possibly severe as we have some very cold upper air moving up the south island.

A mixed day of cloudy weather and fine spells also clagg moving across resulting in the wet weather at Temuka but nothing much here except for a few drops, AFT as I record that in my weather diary. Becoming fine this evening with not much wind.
18.5C the maximum for today.

Good storms in the north island as of late. Today for me is a good day for the Waikato area.certainly would warrant a risk as MS has pointed out.

Thunder/ hail risk for Canterbury on Thursday afternoon however I quite like the look of Saturday afternoon/evening better for Canterbury will see how that pans out.

Nor west wind has fired up virtually out of no where a few minutes ago. Gusting to 75kph, bits and pieces flying around in the yard.

Only another 60mm needed at Christchurch Airport to record our wettest ever year recorded at the airport site, the wettest year recorded there was 909mm recorded in 1975...
