Tomorrow could be interesting, tornado risk mentioned in the latest TS outlook.
A front moves southeast over Northland during the morning, reaching Auckland towards midday. There is a moderate risk of thunderstorms with this front, these storms may be accompanied by hail, heavy rain 10 to 20 mm/h, strong wind gusts of 90 km/h and a chance of a small tornado. There is a low risk that these storms could become Severe with one or two localised damaging tornadoes. There is a moderate risk of thunderstorms in Taranaki with heavy rain and a slight chance of a small tornado.

A low risk of thunderstorms with heavy rain extends over the remainder of the upper and central North Island.

A slow moving front is expected to affect the far south of the North Island. There is a moderate risk of thunderstorms for Horowhenua Kapiti Coast and a low risk for Wellington and the Marlborough Sounds. Those storms could bring bursts of heavy rain, 10 to 25 mm/h.

Cold air at upper levels is expected to make conditions over the upper South Island unstable. There is a low risk of thunderstorms with heavy rain from central parts of Westland to Buller.

No thunderstorms or significant convection expected elsewhere in New Zealand during this period.

New thread for today's possible heavy showers and T-storms for most of the North Island and parts of the upper South Island.

Here's this morning's update for the rest of today...
MetService Thunderstorm Outlook

A front moves east across the North Island today, bringing bursts of heavy rain and a moderate risk of thunderstorms to many areas. This morning and afternoon the risk of thunderstorms is considered moderate from Northland and Coromandel to Taranaki and from there to northern Wairarapa as indicated on the chart. These storms may be accompanied by heavy rain, 10 to 25 mm/h. The storms in Northland and Auckland could possibly be Severe with one or two localised damaging tornadoes. There is a low risk of thunderstorms extending south from the moderate risk area into the south of Wairarapa, coastal Whanganui and Manawatu and also Kapiti.

This afternoon and evening there is a moderate risk of thunderstorms for Coromandel Peninsula the east of Waikato through Taupo to much of Hawkes Bay and also Rotorua and the Bay of Plenty. Those storms may be accompanied by heavy rain, 10 to 25 mm/h.

This evening and at night there is a moderate risk of thunderstorms with heavy rain for the far north of Hawkes Bay and the south og Gisborne as indicated on the chart.

Conditions are unstable over the upper half of the South Island. Afternoon and early evening wind convergence bring a low risk of thunderstorms from North Canterbury to northern Westland, and northwards to Tasman and Marlborough, as indicated on the chart. However, the risk of thunderstorms is considered moderate for central and southern Marlborough and the far north of Canterbury. These thunderstorms may produce localised rainfall rates of 10 to 25 mm/h.

No thunderstorms or severe convection expected over the remainder of New Zealand.
