Pretty sure (going by radar and my own obs) that hale is now in the Tasman just out from Auckland. That wasn’t forecast!
Looks to be quickly changing its path tho and now on its SE March. But further west than forecast by MetService track last night.

Yeah, certainly looks that way. Interestingly, MS currently have Hamilton Aero as the lowest pressure in NZ of 986 hPa, while Port Taharoa to the SW and Akld Aero to the NW are on 987 hPa.jamie wrote: ↑Wed 11/01/2023 06:10 Pretty sure (going by radar and my own obs) that hale is now in the Tasman just out from Auckland. Here's this morning's 1am track-map. Be interesting to see the next one.

Similar weather to yesterday in Napier. Low thick grey cloud, with frequent bursts of horizontal rain in a stiff Easterly wind.
Driving conditions: Hazardous.
Attention now turns to the waves over the next few days.

Here's MS's latest track-map showing Hale's centre over Hamilton at 7am.

Suddenly under a pop up heavy rain warning, only issued at 8:20am. Debatable how useful a warning is when the event has already started and will be over in 3-4 hours. I guess is better than nothing.
Sure is a slow moving blob on the radar.

Yea I’m pretty pissed about that. No warning. Would have made changes to management plan on farm had I known we were going to get 50mm today.

Would not want to be up Mt Pirongia today, is getting hammered along with some areas towards Waitomo.
