The road outside my Silverdale Spy's home had half a metre of brown water flowing in it on the Friday night, and the shingle on the driveway was washed out down to the clay, but otherwise no harm done there.

Henderson had crazy rain indeed. I headed out to pick up my daughter from Kindy about 3:30pm, there were multiple spots on the roads there that were flooded with about 30cm at the time. Decided after that to stay in, too dangerous. The water really started to pile up not long after then. We had a small stream outside our garage, and thankfully the drains there were doing a great job removing it. Water pooling all around the house, too, up to the door line, but no further, thankfully. Behind us has a recessed stepped area, which was fully submerged with about half a meter of water.

Historic stuff indeed, never seen anything like it, and we got it easy.

At the risk of speaking too soon, and being very much an amatuer, I'm getting the feeling looking at the radar that this next rain won't be as bad as forecast. Hopefully this comment doesn't look extremely silly come morning..

And this was predicted well in advance, just not by MS et al.
ACCESS-s nailed it, a week out, those Aussies were always best placed to give a proper read, if you think about it.

Looks like a cell over water in the Firth of Thames that could cause issues

Torrential rain has eased here, 80mm here, a lot of it falling last couple of hrs. I see Grey Lynn got 36.6mm last hr

I see Metservice North Shore got 55mm in 2 hours.

Picked up 26mm overnight over here.

Oh dear. Hope the flooding isn't too bad for folks. Couldn't believe my eyes when I looked at radar earlier and that heavy band was streaming right over Auckland. Talk about unlucky..

According to stuff.co.nz there has been a number of evacuations and rescues this morning. The northern motorway is closed again as well and lots of houses are beginning to flood.

Caught 81mm here this morning on the heavy edge of that rain band.
Set a record rain rate of 18mm/min just after 6am as well

In Auckland a lot of the flood water clears quickly after the heavy rain stops, the flooding event is easing here now. Some low lying areas around here got flooded again but not like Friday.

Karipiro Lake is being drained atm, with the Taupo control gates fully open to release as much water as possible with the Waikato and Taupo catchments set to get much more rainfall.

Have seen pictures from the Kuratau area showing very high lake levels so must still be a lot more water coming into the lake than can be released with the fully open control gates?

Will keep an eye on that thunderstorm risk for Auckland later tomorrow, higher risk is east/southeast of here.

Very humid again today, mainly fine so far, keeping an eye on the radar.

Looks like more rain lining up on the radar behind that line of convergence as well. Be interesting to see where it hits. Maybe a fair bit more to come for coromandel/ western BOP?

It's interesting that this weather event wasn't named as remnants of TC Irene which only lasted a day or two but it's effects resulted as a significant weather event for the North Island.

This event had nothing to do with Ex-TC Irene, who's remnants disappeared into the TC graveyard well to the east of NZ nearly a week before. Irene was, however, followed by an almost named TD that got shredded as it brushed the south side of New Caledonia, but helped to fuel the 'subtropical moisture plume' that fed this North Island event.
