Much nicer than I expected today after the morning showers cleared. Really humid though with dewpoint 21-22C.

Towering Cu and small Cbs visible in the west with the convergence out there, a partly cloudy dry afternoon this side of town. Feels tropical today with the dew point up to 22C.

I’m at the southern end of lake Taupo on holiday. 204mm so far since it started and it is still pouring. Never seen rain like it.

Certainly one for the books. By a long shot as well. Feeling thankful we missed the worst of it at home.
Made it down to Eastern BOP today. Roads and weather okay but rivers and steams were certainly flowing. Be interesting to see what rest of the weekend and first half of the week bring here..

A couple of stills taken of a video I made last during Community Patrol. We assisted various people with cars stuck in flash flooded areas. The downpour was very heavy from 1800h till around 2130 hours in The New Lynn, Kelston, Glen Eden, Titirangi area.

Up to 225mm now at the bottom of lake Taupo. Starting to see slips now. Relentless rain. No end in sight.

It had dropped back to normal levels but the rise in lake level over the past couple days has been notable.

Yeah, heaps of lightning out this way from an incoming rainband. Became active fairly quickly too.

Forecast: These severe thunderstorms are moving towards the south, and are expected to lie near KAIAUA, MARAMARUA, FIRTH OF THAMES, MIRANDA and THE HUNUA RANGES at 12:45 am and near HUNTLY, MARAMARUA, TE KAUWHATA, OHINEWAI, WAITERIMU, WAERENGA and TANIWHA at 01:15 am.
These thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by torrential rain.

Should see a clearing up process in our weather by Thursday however the system coming in later Tuesday could be very significant with more flash flooding.

Apologies if this has been asked, I haven’t read every post but I was stunned to read in the paper today that MetService didn’t declare a red rain warning for Auckland till 9.30pm Friday night. That seems awfully late. I knew about the orange warning, but it rains heavy all the time here and I was trying to get some deep work done before knock off so wasn’t even thinking about it (or checking media, socials etc) before I finished work at 7pm Friday. It was not good then, like a monsoon outside and streets/footpaths like rivers as I walked to Britomart only to find no trains, and buses not running properly and generally a lot of chaos with little information. I guess it just seems like no one official wanted to “call it” and I wondered if an earlier “red warning” would’ve been the first thing that helped. My work would’ve let us go home early. Can’t believe I’m saying this, but one of those emergency text alerts would’ve been nice!!
