I know there is a long way to go but looking ahead to the next few days, it looks like we will get some decent rain here in Canterbury.

Funny, 100km away from you but just about same time had a gust come through that made all other ones so far today look like a little puff

Really amping up in Hawkes Bay. See they have a red warning for us now, expecting major issues for the rivers.

Yep some of the gusts must be near 100kph now? And bucket down - to think we have another 24rs or so of this is a bit scary.

I see that you've just gone under 980hPa. Will be interesting to see how low the pressure goes.

There's a staggering time lapse of the Hikuwai River near Tolaga Bay (north of Gisborne) rising dramatically between 7 and 11 this morning. Can be found on the windy.com website (webcams). Lots of forestry slash flying past too.
Not sure if this link will take you to the webcam, but you can access via the map if it doesn't.

A visually dramatic change in temp and air pressure, when comparing last week with the current.

Really bucketing down now. Torrential, strong winds here in Napier. Going to be a hell of a night if this is just the start.

Update from Wellington. And some brief brightness for the thread via the sun this evening cutting in under the high cloud for a brief 5min period.

Been a few light ESE gusts, and overcast until 530pm onwards when we have had a few short showers. We might have dodged anything bad as forecast seems to be only for 50knot gusts tomorrow.

Power just came back on here a couple of hours ago; been off for nearly 24 hrs. Local outages on and off for most of the island.

MS had Gabrielle's centre very roughly about 140 km NNE of Great Barrier Island at 7pm, moving at about 5-10 knots, with a central pressure of 971 hPa, down from 974 hPa at 1pm and dropping...

Yeah, surprised Hamiton airport only showing 56km gust, much stronger here, most sustained strong wind gusts since have lived at this address which is since 2002. I guess the mountains of the plateau are creating a standing wave. Looks like the models other than gfs attempt to model it.
