North west winds got quite strong here during the night. Woke me up at 2.30am and I could hear lots of banging in the yard and the roar of the wind was quite noticeable.

Wind must be swinging around, just noticed raindrops on west-facing windows which rarely happens.

12.2°C currently.

It’s calmed down significantly here now, looks like the sun could almost come out. I have noticed the wind swinging around too.

Hardly any rain here, just overcast with a cold westerly wind blowing. The heavy falls must be way out to sea?

Just light spotty rain so far here which I was expecting all going by the surface maps, this will increase this afternoon along with the big gales especially about the coast and Banks Peninsula.
Have had a few spells of gusts just on gale force 60kmh about 20 minutes ago.
The system only starting to wind into the coast now.

Some puzzling lines from Stuff:

[bbm]

"A tornado moving up the country has torn off roofs and brought power outages to southern regions, and warnings remain in place for Canterbury."

Decidedly stormy in Lincoln, heavy rain set in an hour ago and increasingly gusty winds. Chch in the firing line I would say, particularly with king tides

The wind is really picking up here now, by far the strongest it’s been all day.

Some very heavy rain here now I'll call it torrential, but is probably being driven down by high winds a little higher up.
The winds have been quite blustery although seem to be getting up again now, a few small branches down in the city.
It looks rough in Akaroa with the sea up over the roads.

Pretty wet and windy over there today, with heavy rain on the odd occasion and gale gusts at times. Harbour looked wild as I was coming back this afternoon about 4-4.30, but the sea wasn't washing over the road at Duvauchelle (it was high tide), though not far from it. No flooding or major branches down that I could see.

Big swells have also been cause for some concern. Wainui boat ramp looked to have taken some damage, and saw some a report of 3m or erosion at the ashburton mouth as waves came of the top of shingle bars.

Out of interest, where did you get your info about the Ashburton River mouth? I’m not able to drive down there for a look this evening so pictures will have to do!
