Low cloud overnight clearing away this morning to make it a nice and fine sunny day, ideal for balloon watching.
Light variable winds making it a mild day for April with it getting up to 18.4C.
Another shot of today's balloon.

Some overnight dew point temperatures are modelled to be as high as 18-19C for the upper North Island, very warm for mid April.
Looking quite likely that the mean daily min for April will be higher than it was for March.

Just keeping an eye on Monday which has been in the models for a few days now, some quite cold upper air coming through with -34C at 500mb.
Total totals are quite high at 60 so looking at this stage very good for thunderstorms and hail around midday to mid afternoon for the plains and coast.
An earlier SW surge in the morning will see rain before a clearance and trough move inbehind with much colder air.
One to watch :-k

Totally the opposite here. Geraldine tops again for the claggiest day in the country. Fog overnight not really lifting all day with hardly any wind.

High cloudiness for Auckland today with the temperature reaching a balmy 24C, dew point 18C.

Good convergence and some instability brings some thunderstorm risk to much of the North Island on Saturday, the risk is mostly south of Hamilton.

Would of been. I don't know the extent of the clagg as it was so miserable weather wise , we stayed home and demolished our fence which was falling down anyway and used some of the planks, as the wood was old and untreated, to light the fire this afternoon.
It was foggy overnight and this morning but it never really lifted high enough to clear away. No wind all day. When I lit the fire, the smoke went straight up. 12.8C the maximum for today.Another grey day tomorrow?

Anyway, nice fine sunny day with some interesting Ac lenticular forms developing.

It's highly unusual for a change to be electrical at this time of night/morning.

Long rolling thunder woke me up, seen a few cracker bolts including just then big CG.
Very heavy rain currently, will try and get some lightning shots.
