Thankfully that clagg stayed 20km south of here and so it stayed a mainly sunny day, but it did come in as it got dark. Hopefully it clears off today now.

Moderators: Maybe the tornado events over Easter become a separate topic for future reference?

It was mainly fine overnight and this morning with sunny periods and scattered cloud, high and low, but during the afternoon it gradually clagged over with low cloud and becoming dull and overcast. Coming onto rain from 7pm with 7.5mm falling to 10pm this evening.
Not much wind, if so from the south. 17C the maximum for today when it was sunny

Clagg Grand Central all-right.
Nothing much out of this system here apart from clagg and not much wind. Wrong side of this trough for storms, just clagg.
Met some people for lunch we know from Waikuku who said that it was fine and sunny when they left this morning but from Rolleston southwards it was just grey skies with the occasional drizzle/rain shower through to Geraldine.

Yes.It can be calm here whilst it can be windy in places like Mayfield or Levels Airport.
Can be windy here too but not as strong as in other places around South Canterbury.
...anyway, an overcast day of grey skies and the occasional drizzle/light rain shower.
4mm for today with a maximum temperature of 13.1C.

Yes you could see a convergence line running SE/NW on the satellite

Driving back from Timaru this afternoon through the clagg and drizzle there was a bit of a convergence line going through Winchester about 4pm which delivered a bit of a short burst of a heavy drizzle shower.

Another band of drizzle/light rain moving into the city now, I guess that's what you get with a big high parked to the east.

The models are pointing to some heavy rain for the west coast Marlborough and Canterbury on Wednesday under a developing tropical finger from the north, but most and more concerning is through Thursday and Friday for the northern west coast and top of the south with some big rainfall totals possible.

This is very typical the flip flopping between a more El Nino like end to March to a neutral phase more characteristic of La Nina.
These are never abrupt changes so it's fair to say we are going to a very active period with lows from the north and south as we towards winter.
So probably my pick is June will be the month to watch in terms of low level snow events, after that the more westerly phases will kick in more often.
:-k

A warm week ahead for the time of year, particularly at night.
Some overnight dew point temperatures are modelled to be as high as 18-19C for the upper North Island, very warm for mid April.
