from the web site
Easily replace the tipping bucket assembly in your rain collector with the more accurate tipping spoon. The Davis Vantage Pro2 Tipping Spoon Replacement Kit reports in millimeters. Comes with a 0.5 m (19in) sensor cable. Recommended for use in Vantage Pro2 sensor suites. (See 7345.440 for tipping spoon assembly recommended for stand-alone rain collectors.)

not easy as they say!

Hmm, how old was the original one? I replaced my tipping bucket mechanism from 2009 with the new single spoon mechanism last August and though I’ve forgotten the installation details it didn’t require any extra modification to get it to slot in

Possibly, just checked out this short clip and I'm pretty sure this was how I did it too. From what I can see this should work for all VP2 models

figured it out had it round wrong way !
Having my computer inside and weather station outside makes it harder to work out.
Also the video of installation is done inside on a uninstalled unit. Paper instructions would have made it easier. Then I would have had instructions right next to unit.
