Yep, also around 3am yesterday, Akld Aero had max gusts of 96 km/h, Whangaparaoa 87 km/h, Whenuapai 85 km/h and Ardmore 69 km/h.

Looking forward to some drier and sunnier weather over the next few days... 8)

quick update from me. had 92mm of rain in flat bush on Tuesday. good thunderstorms overnight Wednesday with hail. interesting how the next high gets broken into two and next week looks interesting. too far out still though.

really sad to hear of that Whangarei (Abbey caves) tragedy. :-(

Basically a fine day day with light variable winds.
17.5C for today.
MS forecasting thunderstorms for Sunday in South Canterbury. Don't think so <3

Just looking at tomorrow as MS indicates a thunderstorm risk.

There is certainly a risk there mainly focused south of Christchurch in the late afternoon. Only concern is the higher pressure at around 1018hpa, but the total totals read let's say reasonably high for mid May standards.

Moderate hail but nothing on the severe characteristics for storms that I can see.
Light winds generally onshore prior, and average dew point temperatures.

Cold trough sits over south island tomorrow bringing instability.
Don't think we will see many more chances until spring down here after tomorrow

That instability moves over north island Monday with more thunderstorms their. Good start to the colder season up there

A generally partly cloudy day with light NE with the sun shining at times but not so, later in the afternoon, as SC layers moved across.
14.7C for today before cloud moved in.
Not expecting anything tomorrow despite the cold temps above. Surface pressure too high for any proper thunderstorm development and also the time of year. Either be clagg or drizzle?
Not looking very good for the NI later next week with another nuisance low pressure system moving SE across the country. :-s

Today's set up is actually a classic Canterbury setup. It will be interesting to see what it brings this afternoon given the time of year but something should spark up.

Been a reasonable season down here but nothing in the way of supercells this time around.

As mentioned yesterday north islands turn tomorrow with the instability and Wellington might cop a storm overnight tonight

Hi, it's a DJI Mini Mavic 2 drone. Very small lightweight drone weighing 250g. Use my S21 Samsung Phone, Gopro Hero 9 and the DJI Drone for my YouTube videos and photos.

The problem with drones in NZ is you need permission to fly them over any privately owned property and most public areas including all DOC land also you are not allowed to fly them over roads.
I have a DJI Mavick Mini drone, it would be nice to be able to do more photography with it.

Yes there are rules for drone use in NZ, which I keep up to date with. I have 7 acres so my drone stays within my boundary, I'm more than 4 kilometers away from nearest airport. My app for my drone has a warning feature about restricted airspace, and it is also governed to 120m max height which is the maximum height allowed in NZ.
Unfortunately, other drone users spoil it for us that use our drones correctly and within rules.

Today certainly had the potential but you could see the weaker CU forms rather than punchy towers.
Some brief heavy showers moved through on southerly arrival.

There must be a second southerly surge which has been producing some lightning off the coast of Timaru over the past 30 minutes. I do know that heavy showers are quite possible until mid morning tomorrow.
