After a frosty start, a fine day eventuated with a maximum temperature of 16.5C.
Nice much wind, if so a light north to NW.

July 2023 was another exceptionally warm month overall. It was also much drier than previous months for most parts, except for the east and south of the South Island, which included some flooding in Canterbury. The odd heavy rainfall event also caused more slips in the Coromandel Peninsula and Gisborne/Tairāwhiti.

I think the Wellington rainfall figure of 114 being 36% of average is a typo?
MetService site says July average for Kelburn is 132.7, vs them also reporting 114 for July.
So percentage figure should be 86%.

Thanks BeaconHill. Yes, it was a typo. Have amended my original post.
Wellington's 114.0mm last month should be 77% of its 147.1mm 1991-2020 normal.
Note that MS's 1981-2010 normal of 132.7mm should be 137.2mm.

According to NIWA, July 2023 was NZ's 4th warmest July on record, following our 5th warmest June on record. It was also NZ's 2nd warmest June-July period on record after 2021. What are the odds of this winter ending up our warmest on record for the 4th consecutive year?
