Southern California and Nevada are in the firing line for heavy rain from this system as it moves north. Some rare heavy rainfall expected.
Average rainfall numbers for August for these cities.
San Diego 0.25mm
Palm Springs 3.6mm
San Betnardino 3.3m.
Las Vegas 8.1mm

This system is declining quickly now as it crosses much cooler water, but it could still just about be a Tropical Storm when it reaches the far south of California - and this does not happen too often. Current predicted track, courtesy of NOAA:

Interesting to see how this Hurricane or ex Tropical Storm, in its path northward, will affect the Mojave Desert and Death Valley with it's rainfall? o_O

There's is a Mediterranean climate, with hardly any rain on the coast, and only scattered thunderstorms inland I believe.

I'm sure people further north in the US and Canada would be hoping the storm moved north and dumped some rain on them.
