It has been very hot on Phoenix all year and they have now recorded 70 days with a maxiumum of 110°F or more. This smashes the old record of 55 days which was only set last year.

Note, it has just ended a run of 20 consecutive days with a new date maximum record - record goes back to 1896, I think.

I have visited Phoenix in August with a car that had no air conditioning. We also drove into Death Valley with no air conditioning. Plenty of Americans go to Hawaii for the Summer holidays for cooler weather.

52C at a gas station forecourt  I guess it will have been in the mid-late forties. SW USA is a great part of the world to visit with incredible scenery.

It has been rather dry in parts of the NE of America through the month of October. According to this tweet, the NOAA site at Central Park in New York last recorded measureable rainfall on the 29th September, and with little or any forecast in the next week or two, it could break its record for the longest such spell. Up to 19th October, there had not been any measureable rainfall for 20 days and the record is 36 days from way back in late Autumn 1924.

According to Bloomberg, the period with no measureable rainfall lasted 29 days at the Central Park (New York) weather site - from 30th September to 28th October. They classify measureable rainfall as 0.01" or more in a day. This is the second longest period for this site - highest is as stated in an earlier post at 36 days in the autumn of 1924.

Cannot find confirmation of this from NOAA.
