16 seems legit to me. I recorded 15.3 in temuka, didn't feel cold at all at work in orari

We are in a sheltered area here in Geraldine and it can be quite warm in the back yard and the back of the house as compared to more exposed areas in the town. Sadly, i don't have my Stevensons Screen any more as that got damaged in the high winds that we experienced in West Melton.
MS or NIWA do not have a station here in Geraldine so I can't compare my temperatures to theirs for comparison.

Was a cold wind yesterday out in the exposed paddock, 11.4dag the max here. Should get yourself another screen John otherwise the temps you post are not really accurate at all

Yeah was a High of 14.9 at Timaru airport yesterday so 16c in Geraldine is probably pretty accurate in a private backyard with heat from surrounding buildings etc.

Overall south Canterbury is a bit warmer in S/Sw wind as the wind blows over the Hunter Hills rather than directly off the sea like Futher north on the plains.

Its not accurate if its been influenced by buildings etc, the gauge needs airflow and little radiated solar light.

Regardless of how you setup your screen it's always going to be slightly warmer in a suburban area vs out in the countryside, that's why Metservice have most of their stations at Airports. Johns readings from Geraldine are probably accurate to his location in a suburban backyard. it might have been a degree or two colder outside town but with 15c reported at Timaru airport it seems South Canterbury was just a little bit warmer than the rest of Canterbury yesterday.

MS actually had Timaru Aero peaking at 15.5C yesterday arvo. NIWA's Timaru Garden's site, about 12 km further south and more coastal, was a little cooler with 14.3C.

Fairly blustery now in southern Christchurch, gusts just on gale force at times.
Aircraft have changed the flight path to over the city.
The winds will come and go overnight but will pick up tomorrow prior to brief spillover rain. Could be some hefty gusts in there.

Gale force refers to a mean speed, not a gust speed.

Metservice have most of their stations at airports because of the mission critical needs of aviation for real time data.

Here is a photo of my weather sensor located on a fence in the back corner of our property in a well shaded area.
I cleared some foliage nearby to allow more a wind flow past it.

Strange day here.
Windy and mild overnight but cooled away from early this morning with a southerly developing with associated clagg moving over?

Looking rather bleak to the south. Quite cool here, might have to light the fire. Not much wind, if so from the south/SE.

A different kind of strange day here, spitting light rain all day along with a the gale WNW wind, never had a heavier period of rain during that time, just really odd.

Interesting day here weather wize.
Windy overnight and also this evening from the west but apart from that it was a boring claggy day with low cloud cover for much of the day before it cleared away later this afternoon and evening. Not much wind, calm at times.
Today's maximum was 18C recorded around 1am this morning but then the temperature dropped away, with today's daytime maximum only reaching 12C, as the windflow, even though light, tending to the south with one or two light gusts. Also some sporadic light rain falling but one shower had a few heavy drops. 0.8mm or today. Looked more rainy southwards towards Timaru with some red spots on the radar as the rain moved out to the east.
Anyway fine evening with westerly wind up for a while.

Unstable looking skies over Banks Peninsula for a time midafternoon, with virga like showers visible to west. (nothing in Akaroa) What was a warm day, become quite a lot cooler, as fresh southwesterly wind sprung up.

25.8°C at the moment according to my unscientific thermometer.
Nor'west arch, high cloud aloft, quite hazy. Fresh breeze, gusty at times.
