Thanks Orion, and Storm Struck!
Also thanks for mentioning that facebook photo. The park featured in the photo is also an area I walk the dogs, so the direction of the photo seems to point to where I was, and the time fits in well.
Now I really regret not having a proper chance to actually look up to the sky, I tried at the time but was under the tree - and then captivated by how fast it was moving through the grass, followed by gathering the dogs so we could get to the car - I was just too distracted after. The noise it made, and that speed is certainly something I"ll remember for a while!

Interesting weather system moving north over the country with this system giving floods to Gore, Queenstown and now possibly the East Cape/BOP area.Today it was raining overnight with showery conditions this morning and isolated drizzle this afternoon. Cold day with it only getting up to 8.1C for the first day of daylight saving. We had 13.1mm of rain for today, a wee bit more than the overcast conditions of yesterday that just produced drizzle.

Auckland rain radar isn’t too good at picking up rain out here on Great barrier it seems. Currently showing nothing over the island but it’s been lightly raining for about 5 hours straight.

Looks as though a westerly storm/heavy SW swell might coincide with king tides later this week.

Gusty thunderstorms possible Thursday for the upper North Island. I see there was some TS action north and east of Taupo this afternoon.

Abit more settled but cooler last few days, but some more welcome rain in the next few days.
We are starting to see those thunderstorm chances creep in for Canterbury, the ingredients are not quite there for Thursday.
But on Friday afternoon/evening there is currently a chance of coastal thunderstorms, very much around Timaru offshore up to Banks Peninsula.
Saturday presents another risk but more widespread from mid Canterbury northwards with an upper trough and cold upper air.
And so on into next week.

After a frosty start, a fine day eventuated. Warm in the sun away from the southerly breeze we had today.
Today's maximum was 14C.
Some low cloud moving in later this afternoon and this evening. Looks like a day of clagg for tomorrow, unfortunately. :(

No rain here despite it being a cloudy day. Not as claggy as I expected. Light southerly with a maximum of 13.2C.
I wonder how much we will get tomorrow from the southerly change with rain, some heavy?

Looks like more thunderstorms for the Waikato region today, great start to spring season up that way. Nice cold pool bringing the instability again their.

Canterbury could see some heavy showers/ hail move through later today. But Monday should things pull off, look better for the Canterbury plains thunderstorms wise

Looked like that from here. Probably weakon or move out to sea as it comes this way. A bit of an easterly here with cloud thickening to the west.

Decent storm rolling towards Timaru for sure.
Just under that other line further north over Christchurch, heavy shower just started up so maybe a clap of thunder soon.
Was quite turbulent just after 4pm with lots of mid level CU layers.
