General September Weather

Unread post by NZ Thunderstorm Soc »

After an absence of snow last winter,it did snow on the first day of spring last year. I don't think it will happen this year.
September could a wetter month than August, interesting to see how things pan out.

That was in 2020, we had around 3-4cm here on the ground at 100m asl.
Been a poor winter for low level snow here, lots at higher altitude though.

3.7C here to start off September but certainly looks like a milder pattern moving in.

Yes happy first meteorological day of spring! Lovely warm day in Canterbury today, working out in charing cross on a weather board house. Nice to be outside.

Thunder season is nearing, normally starts mid October for this region when the NE sea breeze kicks in.

North island does look like their could be some chances in the next week as you say spwill

Auckland was fine yesterday with 19.2C maximum at the airport. The frontal activity to the north is struggling to come south.

Looking ahead, Tuesday looks like messy breezy NE conditions here now.

Something brewing the Southern ocean for around the 12/09/23, similar setup to early October last year with a large high pressure system sitting over SE Australia and some deep low pressure systems north of Antarctica dredging up some seriously cold air. So not quite as cold but with more moisture...

I was going through photos on my phone with the kids this morning and it reminded me that we had snow flurries in Ashburton in October last year! There’s still hope yet for the snow lovers amongst us!

Not damp down here with only 1.2mm falling here in the last 10 days.
Another cloudy day but it was fine around noon with today's maximum recorded around that time.
16.3C the max for today around that time but then it was mostly quite cool with a light NE with the temperature around the 13C mark for most of the day.

Generally, a fine day here with light winds this morning but from just before 1pm, a strong NW flow developed with a warming of temperatures when the high cloud moved away allowing the sun to shine through. 21.7C the maximum for today.
Generally a NW day with the wind easing away at times.
Fine mild evening with it being 15C at 10pm.

Blue dome day here today with no cloud to be seen.
light NE and a maximum of 18.4C.
New house going up next door.
If they have a black roof no doubt the maximum temperatures recorded here will be higher than with previous recordings at this site.
There should be a ban on black roofs as that enhances heat rising making the weather warmer?
I would like to know how many black roof houses are in places like Phoenix in Arizona or Dallas in Texas?

A black body will absorb more radiant energy than a white one (daytime), but it will also release more as well (night time). Swings and roundabouts.
