Prolific Sprite activity last night over Fiordland, some very large ones captured. I believe that these are quite common with the fronts coming in off the Tasman, but rarely seen due to the extent of cloud cover that comes with them.

Could of been one of those strikes that hit the Singapore Airline aeroplane whilst crossing the Alps this morning? :-k

Sunny here at this stage but the cloud is building to the south.

Saw that too. That's a damn cold wind for a coastal location.

Rain and sleet came on quickly here this morning, was quite thick sleet for abit almost that verge before snow.
It looks like it is clearing but there will be isolated showers re developing until mid afternoon from Mid Canterbury north.
Perhaps some hail etc in them.

North Canterbury best spot for thunder if anywhere in Canterbury today. You might get a bang up your way Richard with that extra heating

A big snow shower came through Dunedin at about 11.30 am. It was too warm to settle.
