Re: General November Weather
Metservice have upgraded there risk for thunderstorms for Canterbury high with a low risk severe hail and tornados. Certainly feels good this morning.
Could this be one of those Canterbury plains days to mark down.. we will see. Steve, Aaron and I will be chasing if so.

Re: General November Weather
Interesting day here with 2 thunderstorms developing this afternoon, one out of TC Corner and the other over the area west of Timaru. Both storms moving out to the ENE. It rained here overnight after a claggy day yesterday but then this morning, it cleared and become sunny for a while but with some instability looming in the upper cloud, then from 1pm, the first rumbles were heard.
The skies developed from then on for thunderstorm development. No actual lightning was observed from the first thunderstorm which had continuous thunder as it moved away to the ENE.
The second thunderstorm developed later this afternoon and moved in the same direction as the earlier storm, but to the south of Geraldine.
I dd see some cloud to cloud strikes in that storm but it as infrequent to use my lightning app.
Both storms delivered heavy rain but no hail, also no hail was observed on the ground during my chase in my truck.
Together the rainfall total was 17.4mm with 9.4mm falling from the 2 thunderstorms.
Today's maximum was 18.4C before the thunderstorms, then the temperature gradually dropped from then. 9C at 10pm.
A photo from today.

Re: General November Weather
It should be active for thunderstorm development over the central North Island and Bay of plenty during the afternoons Monday and Tuesday.
NW South Island in the zone for a few thunderstorms today, more storms possible for the Nelson region tomorrow.

Re: General November Weather
I got caught in heavy rain near the airport ~7:50am.
It was just as a black base dropped its guts. The road had about a half inch of water on it in mere seconds.
I didn't enjoy driving in it, sthe superspeed wipers were bearly enough.

Re: General November Weather
There has been some quite heavy cells about this morning, there was one that came up from Rakaia that the radar had white and green in it.
So no doubt some isolated heavy hail through the likes of Templeton and Hornby.
Another area has opened up near Belfast on the radar recently.
Cold upper air lingering is the culprit, and perhaps not quite as strong surface southerly winds as forecast to allow for slower Precipitation at the surface.
Would almost indicate to me a moderate risk for north Canterbury early afternoon, around your area Richard.

Sitting just on the edge of those storms, made for good viewing and a colourful sunset. No thunder/lighting observed however. One part of the build up seems to be bounded by a section of Lake Karapiro almost like that discontinuity in the landscape is affecting it.

Thunderstorms up in the central NI but no reports of any events. Cool weather passing over us with a stationary high in the Tasman Sea.
Some rain overnight but a cold but sunny day here with a warm 15.2C recorded here. Winds becoming NE this afternoon.

Looks like plenty of cloud cover south of the Bombays subdued thunder activity but plenty of heavy showers down there. Dry here in Mt Eden today with plenty of sunshine this afternoon, max 19C.

Re: General November Weather
As above, a day of clagg eventuated here today with cloud thickening as the day wore on with the occasional drizzle shower this afternoon.
12.5C for the high today with a trace recorded in the rain gauge.
Doesn't look like any improvement for tomorrow, sadly, but that is climate change for you.

Re: General November Weather
Another overcast and cloudy cold day here with southerly winds, although the sun did try to pop out around lunch time.
Today's maximum was 14.7C but reverted down to about 11C when the clagg moved in this afternoon.
Lit the fire again this evening.
Coming onto rain this evening with 1.2mm falling by 10pm.
Hopefully it will clear tomorrow as we need some sun for the tomatoes
Dull cold weather here so far in this year which is on track to be the the warmest year ever??
I can remember years ago when we did Morris Dancing in Oamaru in temperatures of 33C on Show WE in Canterbury

We had an unpredicted frost last night in Mosgiel. We got down to -1.1˚C overnight. My potato plants are frozen stiff
