Multiple severe warnings now on MS for the two main cells - one near Geraldine and the other inland of Ashburton. The sky has quite a menacing look about it here right now.

Yes, I see that. Lots of rumbly thunder but seen hardly any lightning.
Heavy rain here but no hail. I've been in severer thunderstorms than this one but nevermind
Easing away now as it heads north-east.

The core appears to be sliding between Ashburton and Hinds. No hail here at the moment, just heavy rain.

Edit to add that the lightning is increasing as the storm slides to the south east. Near constant flashes at the moment.

Impressive radar image - not sure I've ever seen such a large area of purples, greens, whites and even pinks!

The storm near Ashburton appears to be intensifying further as it interacts with the outflow from the southern storm.

Thunder ripping and tearing around here now. Temp has gone from 18°C to 15.7° in the past half-hour or so. Raining. Thunder rumbling non-stop.

I have a lightbulb on and there was a quick voltage dip. A transmission circuit must have copped a stroke.

Westerfield Spy says, "Sky black and constant thunder growling but not hailing just now. Ground white."

edit to add, hail appears to have been unexceptional size.

Ya, I've got a new pond on my lawn!
Some ~7mm hail fell for a few minutes just earlier, still lying on grass.
Rain very noisy.

Was that thunder I heard in chc? There are clouds around but they don't look like much.
