Lovely and mild with a NW here still, can see the wind change to the south, but is making little progress against this wind

Becoming a boring and dull for Christmas Day this year with low cloud and clagg moving in after the weak and dry southerly change came through this morning and remaining all day with light NE returning this afternoon. 23C before the wind change.

The southerly certainly helped to keep the temperatures moderated yesterday, which in some ways is nice when you are having a warm meal for Christmas lunch.
Temperature hovered around 22C for most of the day with sunshine, until late afternoon.

The slow moving trough this afternoon/ evening will be interesting to see what develops, most areas will get some welcome rain regardless.
Hail looks to be in the 10-15mm range due to good surface convergence, and a strongish upper jet.

Napier yesterday had a min of 20.7C - max 32.5C, mainly fine but some high cloudiness and isolated showers early and late.
The dew point temperature was around 19C.

It’s been trying to clear for an hour or so but now clagged in again and raining.

Another day of overcast conditions and claggy skies, interrupted by a burst of heavy rain around 2pm.
Easterly winds until the showery wind change that brought the bout of heavy rain with winds turning southerly.
Top temperature for today was 21.7C when the sun popped out briefly before the change but gradually cooling as the afternoon and evening worn on.

To balance things out, yesterday was the warmest December day locally in the last 6 years (27.5C max)

The max dewpoint of 23.4 was also a new December record.

Today it's almost been up to 27 again but the humidity not as extreme with dewpoints around 18-19.

A thunderstorm risk for the upper NI tomorrow afternoon/evening, certainly some heavy showers around, the general dew point will be around 20C. Saturday is brighter, staying humid.

Another rather cloudy day although the sun did pop out for a 16th of a second at 4:17pm.
A bit brighter and milder today with NE winds.
Today's maximum was 18.8C.

Very humid in Christchurch this morning reminded me of being on the west coast, after a good splash of rain 6.5mm.
It was 17C at 8am with the low cloud and mist, now warming up quickly on 20C breezy NE should turn more Northerly by lunch.
Potentially our warmest day of summer today, surpassing 30C.

New Years still looks good for thunderstorms and hail, potential for large hail along coastal fringes Timaru to Banks Peninsula.
Although there is a surface southerly from afternoon with a few showers, this should drop back and allow some local but coastal easterly winds in.
Before a second wave with the colder upper air probably between 9pm and 1am.
This time of the year after dark is still good for storms, provided the set up is there.

Northeaster still prevailing here in CHCH, still 25kmh from ENE so still some dying out to do before the NW takes over. Think we will see our warmest weather after 4pm today. Currently 23 degrees. 30 looks more likely tomorrow in my opinion.

Will hit late 20s later today. Once those winds shuffle more northerly.

New years eve I will most likely drive down to timaru early in the day and have some lunch with some people down their and wait for the potential of eastern SI storms.
If those storms happen I'll be in a great position already and will follow them north throughout the evening

28.2 here in temuka, great to finally see the sun. Can't remember the last time we seen it? Looking good so far for storms around here new years eve, the forecast in the Davis app on my phone also shows storms atm which is usually a good sign from experience if it still shows on the day.

Up to 28 degrees here now, with 60% humidity thanks to still being Northeast. Kaikoura Airport hitting 32 earlier this afternoon.

Stuck under a peeling over typical NW cumulus cloud here at the moment, but still has warmed to 27C with not much sun since about 12pm.
Wind has been NE most of the day, but has swung N-NW in the last 20 minutes.

Got to 29.1 deg here which is high for a NW wind day, would have been a bit warmer without it.
