Re: General December Weather
A long rumble of thunder awoke me around 2am this morning, sounded as though if along the foothills. Light rain here then.
No more was heard after that.

Re: General December Weather
Was a few flashes of lightning and extra long rolling thunder in temuka just before 2am. Sounds like it was a lot louder in timaru around 3am.

Re: General December Weather
Watch for a lightning show west of Auckland overnight tonight, elevated instability.
I'm in Hawkes Bay tonite
Maybe some thunderstorm activity here tomorrow, heating + convergence.

Re: General December Weather
Yes, there was a thunderstorm that developed as it moved away to the south after it has passed over Geraldine around 2am this morning so i wasn't dreaming. The thunder must of been south of here, not where I thought.
....anyway, it was another rather cloudy but mild overcast day with some light rain this evening.
Today's maximum was 19.1C here. Haven't seen the sun for several days.

Re: General December Weather
It has been a very humid few days. Had some drizzle yesterday morning then patchy rain from late afternoon briefly steady.
It has also remained mild all night on 16C and should be heading for about 27C today once this cloud clears.
Tomorrow looks very warm and dry, just the chance of a shower about the high country.
There is some showers moving through on boxing day afternoon, unsure if there will be thunderstorms as although it is simular to last Sunday the surface temperatures are not as high.
Dew points remain around 16C.

Persistent claag and low cloud seem to hang around here over the last couple of days, even though nnt cold.

Nice to see the end of the low cloud, thin high cloud now. Hoping for those showers that are forecast to develop later.

Re: General December Weather
This time last year Xmas eve aaron and I were storm chasing. And ended up being a ripper of a chase inland Canterbury from about 7pm
Safe to say to date we had a much better storm season down here than last year.

Pushing just over 30c in Akaroa today, with added humidity. Not the usual dry heat that we normally expect.

Another cloudy day with overcast conditions but this afternoon cloud lifting but remaining rather humid feeling especially when the sun came out for a while. There was a shower here mid afternoon. Clouding up again this evening and rather mild.
Today's maximum was 23.4C, when the sun came out.

Re: General December Weather
Very warm this morning although most of the night was very much between 20- 23C.
Merry Christmas to everyone enjoy the day, and chase if need be.
Tomorrow actually looks abit better in the models now, some cooler upper air moving through in the afternoon.
Better spots would be south and inland Canterbury for thunderstorms and hail, with it being more SE.
But certainly wouldn't rule out the risk for the coastlines either.
Reasonable dew points still lingering tomorrow too, which will help.
New Years Eve also is presenting a good set up for most of the South Island.

Merry Christmas to you all. We seem to have a cheeky wee southwest change moving through here at the moment with lots of low level cloud streaming through to the north.

Re: General December Weather
Merry Christmas to all. Another thundery day for the north island. Northland/ auckland/ Waikato should get some heavy downpours.
South island possible thunder in otago this afternoon maybe reaching south Canterbury with a few isolated heavy showers around mid Canterbury later. Tomorrow looks like it could be abit of a washout for the annual ramp race derby at woodfordglen which i was looking forward to going to.

We are the same down the road in Ashburton. Started the day hot with high cloud but the southerly came through at 9.30 and filled the sky with gross low cloud.
