After a fine clear day yesterday, mainly a blue dome day except for one or two clouds, today was a different story with southerlies freshening late morning and becoming cloudy during the afternoon and more claggier as the afternoon and evening wore on.
Southerlies becoming more easterlish this afternoon and evening.
Today's max was 21.5C around noon.

The timing of an upper level trough is something to watch for Saturday over the NI otherwise a quiet period of weather ahead.

An upper level trough brings the risk of isolated afternoon thunderstorms north of Taupo on Saturday. See how this looks in the coming model runs.

Dew point temperatures 17-18C for the upper North Island tomorrow with heating and convergence. Heavy showers/thunderstorm risk Gisborne Ranges/BOP to Northland.

Today's rainfall has been very isolated, with lots of convergence areas and thick light rain/drizzle.
A welcome 15mm here though, the showery bands may return again in the morning but has certainly given a small reprieve to the drying soils.

Having said that a settled but dry weekend ahead and warm week next week with temperatures into the early 30,s by the end of the week.

Scattered showers around Auckland today, nothing recorded locally apart from a brief spotty shower early afternoon. See if tomorrow has better activity

Tomorrow should have some activity up your way, David, sadly not down here.
Today was a grey and overcast cold day with rain from early this morning but easing off during the afternoon but remaining overcast with clagg.
Today's maximum was 19.6C, early this morning but today's daytime temperature maximum was only 13C.
6.1mm of rain for today. Not much wind.

I don't know about that. It started off nice and sunny and warm here in Geraldine, then from noon it started to become cloudier and as the afternoon wore on sort of become back to the clagg again with overcast and grey skies back again. Light winds though keeping the temperature rather mild. Today's maximum was 23.7C around noon before the cloud rolled in.

Not quite 30C here, Richard, but warm with today's maximum being 26.4C.
Fine for a start off but thin As layers moving across this afternoon before it become more cloudier later in the day and evening. I noticed that it wasn't hot anywhere today but a very warm 31C in Twizel and Hanmer Springs also was very warm today.

First day back at work for the new year and its an extremely windy one here in Lincoln. Bits of trees blowing all over the roads and some very hefty NE gusts coming through, strongest I've seen in a long time from this direction

The same for us in Ashburton. Very rare for the NEasterly to be so strong here. Lots of dust being blown around too.
