A few spits here in Halswell but not enough to wet the ground really.

Keep watch of a secondary front coming in this evening/ tonight for Canterbury. Their is this first front then a slight clearance and perhaps a small trough and second wave later. Something to keep watch over.

Heard 4 claps of thunder today, one overhead, other 3 distant. Some heavy rain this afternoon, then cleared. Another heavy band of rain just passed through.

Not a drop here either. We went out to Piha for a walk and swim, it was evident there had been some heavy rain in Swanson area on the way back just after midday but it appeared to have been quite localised.

Fine overnight but thickening high cloud developing this morning to the west and moving across and becoming totally fine around noon but then as the afternoon wore on it clouded over and especially from 3pm when the southerly came through with low cloud and rain.
One loud boom of thunder was heard around 3:45pm, but that was that.
Rain eased for a while and there was a temporary clearance. Raining again this evening with 15.5mm to 10pm. 21.5C the maximum for today.

Just got thunderstorms in mid Canterbury tonight. Starting in Mayfield and crossing the rakaia gorge and headed out towards Waddington. Cool wee chase with aaron, lots of lightning but wasn't any clear bolts

A reasonable amount of rain overnight, was particularly heavy around 1am with what sounded like small hail.
The rainfall we've had has been helpful but no drought breaker or to get us out of these extreme dry conditions with 16mm recorded.
Some snow on the mountains too, I'm sure will melt in a few days.

Heading into a semi settled period, still dominated by fronts brushing the lower south.
This should see temperatures around 29 to 31C for Wednesday Thursday in the east.
Not much rain for the east until Sunday with scattered showers possible.

Only 7-8 mm about this area, around 12mm near the coast. Thought the snowline was one of the lowest I remember for Feb, there was even snow drifts on some ridges, shows its was a powder snow.

Noticed some cool temperatures in places today, despite sunshine, that must have made for quite a contrast between sheltered and exposed spots. Tend to get a weak foen effect here in such flows, helps to even it out a bit.

An autumnal feel to the weather today after yesterday's southerly change with snow along the mountain tops. Maybe TonyT is right :-k
Another 2.3mm of rain overnight then clearing to become a fine clear day. Cool south to east winds.
Some Sc cloud to the west later this afternoon.
From 4.5C it got up to 17.9C.
MT. Peel and the ranges toward Mt.Hutt with February snow.

Cool photo John, looks to have been enough snow on Mt Hutt on the far right to have done some summer skying.

I don't know if the snow will last long though, so skiers better get up there quick before the snow disappears. ! ;)

It was similar last February at Mt Hutt, they had to postpone their regular summer open day due to a snowfall then

Even though it got to 18.6C today, it had an autumnal feel to the day with scattered cloud and light winds from the south this morning and early afternoon.
