Nassau airport reported a gust of 96kts on its 1800Z metar this morning.
But the hurricane passed just to the north and is now out in open water heading very slowly for Florida coast.

it could get stronger again as it moves over the warm gulf stream...
there are alot of trees ready to easily break after hurricane charley only 3 weks ago, in central florida, which frances is heading for...

global warming models predicted more hurricanes....(not that i am necassirly a big believer in global warming...but the weather has seen alot of extremes lately)

The weather always has extremes..ie Cyclone Gizelle in 1968.Cyclone bola in 1988,The great storm of 1936.The hurricane NW in 1975,the big elnino in 1982/83,The blizzard of Aug 1992.The weather bomb in 2002.its only the latest ones that we comment on :P
Believed the '50s had lots of events but wasnt around those days ;)

EXTREMES was the keyword in Dr. Sallinger's talk here in Christchurch on Tuesday this week :)

Its not that much more when we are sandwiched between a high in the tasman and a deep low moving off N.Z towards the Chathams ;) ;) ;)
Guess they are much severe when really close to the eye unlike our larger depressions :?:

Central prerssure now 957hpa, which is not very deep for a hurricane.

This is an interesting hurricane as it is passing through a heavily populated area with an excellent observation network.
