Windy from early this morning with NWsters but easing later in the morning. Some overthrow rain showers this morning and around noon.
Scattered cloud for the rest of the day with some Cu forms but nothing substantial. Clouding over this evening with winds easing.
Only 1.5mm recorded in my new rain gauge today. 22C the max for today.

Awesome. It had that kind of corkscrew and separated up down draught thing going on. Sorry, I'm not very knowledgable so it probly wasn't one.

Spotted the coastal cells building when I got up at 7am, they wouldn't usually clip the city when it's very W-SW. But the SW at the surface currently is lighter along the coast allowing the CBs to drift in more.

Went through some heavy hail going to work to the point nobody could see the lanes on the road, a good coating of hail around Yaldhurst with up to pea sized hail.
Agree was certainly a good structure on the left hand side near the airport.
Still another batch of brief showers moving up within the hour possibly heavy, after that should be a settled day with strong SW winds.

It had a nice structure to it but wasn't a supercell. It was sitting right above rolleston township and I didn't hear a clap of thunder nor any hail fell here but visually a spectacular cloud. Not quite enough heating to really get it going with that small trough

Hard to believe the contrast over such a short distance, it's 28C here at work with a strong gusty NW the last half an hour.
5 minutes east of here at the airport its reporting 25C with a breezy Easterly.

Fine morning with light winds and remaining fine all day with some scattered high cloud but the NW pushed through during the afternoon and really boosted up the temperature to a 28.4C maximum for today. Fine and calm and mild evening.

Our local Gulf News reported that a few small boats were picked up and tossed around off Waiheke's Oneroa Beach last Monday at about 5:30pm. I think this was accompanied by a squally heavy thin rainband at the time, but wouldn't rule out a small waterspout or whirlwind?

If it was foggy at the airport wouldn't the flights there be delayed?
No fog here but yesterdays/overnight clagg cleared away to become a fine and warm day with increasing thin high cloud this afternoon.
28.4C today with light winds. Interesting warmth here this evening between the airport at Levels and here. 8C difference at times. with us being much cooler.

I see Pukaki Aero (Twizel) went from 0.1C to 29.7C yesterday. So a diurnal temp range of 29.6C, which is one of the largest I've ever seen. 8-o
