Re: General March Weather
Funny how a high energy system like last Monday only delivers not even a mil of rain, compared to a weak front today which wasn't showing much in surface moisture.
Although 2.5mm is only a sprinkling, it still helps somewhat.
Not a huge amount of rain on the horizon, just a few showers Wednesday and some brief rain Friday night.
Everything is very dry around here and I suspect this may continue for some time.

Re: General March Weather
Back to the clagg today after a mild night with some warm temperatures recorded around dawn including today's maximum here of 20.1C.
A cool day eventuated with grey skies and cool daytime temperatures resulting having the fire going this evening.
Occasional drizzle this afternoon and evening with 4mm falling to 10pm.

Another 2.5mm in my new rain gauge overnight from the clagg from yesterday.
Lower cloud lifting and remaining cloudy for most of the day with light winds and calm this evening. 17.8C for today.

Another claggy day with occasional drizzle in some areas. Not very warm with today's maximum temperature at 14.5C.
Trying to clear late afternoon and evening. Not much wind.

Re: General March Weather
The Niwa seasonal outlook mentioned subtropical activity for the upper North Island from mid month, looks like thats not going to eventuate.
It has been a little on the humid side here last few days, current Auckland dew point 19C. Some cool weather around NZ next week.

Re: General March Weather
Fine day today after 3 days of clagg, but with increasing high but thin cloud during the afternoon. Max of 19C for today.
I noticed there were a few fires around this district this afternoon when I thought there was a fire ban in the South Canterbury area.
Back to the clagg tomorrow probably??

Re: General March Weather
I see signs of the approaching southerly on my horizon at the moment, could be a turbulent change, the white cloud looks quite ragged.
Currently 9.2°C, 60% humidity, and more or less calm, may be a southerly drift already.

Yes can see that line clearly from Lincoln too. Not far away. Hopefully some decent rain for a chance but I'm only expecting a few mm

Re: General March Weather
Should be a good 15-20mm from this system by 9am tomorrow.
Can see the lower level CU building to the south and much darker too.
More rain and southerly chances over the next week too, so will certainly be abit cooler for early autumn.

Re: General March Weather
I don't share your optimism on it being that much today. but it would be nice. Model ranges go from 1.5mm to 8.5mm, Metservice is modelling 9.9mmStorm Struck wrote: ↑Fri 15/03/2024 10:24 Should be a good 15-20mm from this system by 9am tomorrow.

Radar already indicating the system is a bit patchy in its formation
So long as kids cricket happens tomorrow 9am its the last game of the year

Re: General March Weather
Very black to the south from here, radar indicates green and purple just inland so possibly hail.
No thunder heard yet though
Edit. Some brief heavy rain here for about 5 minutes, enough to saturate the ground.
The bulk of the front is actually sitting over south Canterbury moving north, so hopefully some good falls this afternoon.

Re: General March Weather
Could be melted soft hail pellets there Razor, although it is snowing in Naseby this morning at around 600m which is much lower than I thought the snow level would go.
Just had another good burst of heavy rain out this way.

Re: General March Weather
Quite an impressive system out there now, thick heavy rain and strong southerly winds.
Easily surpassed 10mm by now.
Getting colder by the hour on 10C currently, just what we need with this rain.

"Freezing" here in Geraldine. Not a good day for the cruise of cars for the Rock and Hop WE festival visiting Geraldine today.

"Freezing" here also, 7.9°C and falling.
Steady rain drumming on the roof, wind moving small branches around; 75% humidity.

19C here at 2am, currently 16C with rain. Must be Aucklands coolest daytime temperatures of the year here, generally around 17C through the day.

7.4°C here at the moment, sun trying to peep through but lots of cloud, including some explosive-looking cloud steaming northwards to my east.
Lawn is squelchy when I walk on it, all that rain hasn't soaked in yet.

Waterspout in Cook Strait as the southerly change arrived this evening.
I detected lightning 25km to south before front arrived, but no excitement when it reached land. 9mm of rain between 7 and 9pm and decent southerly winds at present. But nothing out of the ordinary.

Re: General March Weather
Came onto rain here around 7am and continued to the mid-afternoon with 14.5mm recorded today in my new rain gauge.
Gradually clearing up from then and becoming fine and cool this evening.
12C was the maximum early this morning before the southerly change came through. Sitting in single figures for much of the day.
