Cape Town Weather I Strong winds destroy over 500 structures in the Strand, Helderberg areas [5:16]
The strongest wind gust I could find (admittedly from a quick search) was 52mph at Cape Town International Airport on the afternoon of the 7th. Some of the local gusts seen on the videos were certainly higher than this. Cape Town had thunderstorms into the evening of the 7th and these may have produced some of the strongest winds.
Had a good thunderstorm departing Durban yesterday including a lightning shot on my camera.
Could of been related to the Cape Town storms, heading towards there tomorrow.
Photos when I get home.
Here's lightning flash that I recorded from that storm
