Strong cold southwesterly this weekend
Looks like winter will be returning this weekend, especially by Sunday, with predicted strong cold southwesterlies and snow to low levels in the far south. This is a 50/50 type situation for Chch - slight changes in wind direction could mean either squally showers/hail, or bright sunnny weather. More exposed Banks Peninsula (where I'll be) has a higher chance of the former in these situations, including more snow on the higher parts.

I thought by the satellite pictures i thought it would be , now, a boring afair with just stratus and cold winds. If there is a NE ahead of the front is could be a different story. However it looks like a cold outbreak from the south.

Well the strong cold SW has just blasted through at 1525hrs after being blasted here by NW prior to that.
A very rapid drop in temperature from 19.8C to 14C in about 20 minutes.
Sky looks messy behinfd the front so I don't expect much to happen
As I said in another posting, No Thunder This Week. I should of said no thunder this week for Christchurch as lucky people to the west of here ie.Oxford, amberley heard a few rumbles

The interesting weather today looks to be down in Otago and Southland.
Some nice Wintry Cb clouds from South Otago to the south right now but these should not get too much further North than Dunedin.
A cloudy day in Auckland with some light showers around but a small line of better looking Cb to come through this area in a couple of hours.

I must admit I'm stumped on that one. Do you mean Micheal uses "pathetic" because of all the SW gales??
Well if there had of been a NE before this front I think we could've had a real winner on our hands. The clouds definately had that thundery feel to them as the wind went SW, some Cb's did manage to develope but they weren't active unfortunately. A nice line formed going out into Pegasus (sp?) Bay, ah....actually, here it is. Well, not thunderous but it looks ok.

From what I saw it was too messy and the Cu were to much humulussy I saw that line too and it didn't look like anything to get excited about
Raining nicely now but no hail. 3mm of rain so far and 3.7C outside. No wind.
