Thunder West of our position!!

Unread post by Shepherds Valley WX »

Gentlemen,

Just heard some small rumblings of thunder to the West of the farm (towards the sea, west coast, NI) some slight sferic activity on the am band (10M freq) and on the 7pm radar there is a small active cell tracking down the west coast.

My WX readings at 1945:
Wind 0.8kts NE
Rain 0.0mm
Baro 999.5 tending down
Temp 14.6 C
Dew Point 9.2 C

Will keep u posted if any thing develops.

Yes the rain seems to have settled into Mid and South Canterbury, with a band of lighter stuff in North Canterbury and offshore to the east. Chch area looks to be free of precip, though I've noticed some slight drizzle outside.

None here at present either. When I mean slight drizzle, I mean drizzle that's too light to dampen the ground or even clothes, so it has virtually no impact.

Yes Steven, I noticed that but according to the AWS at Levels, not all that much fell around Timaru. I see that MS have forecasted heavy rain for their SW change sound of BP for tomorrow night :D
Might trigger a flash or 2 if the NE hangs in there, prior :D

This was reported on the TV3 weather plus Steven's lightning tracker recorded a few lightning strikes near that area as well :)
