Invitation to Auckland weather enthusiasts to visit

Unread post by Manukau heads obs »

Hi
plan maybe for a day next weekend (the 16th/17th Oct)
I should be able to wrangle a visit to the Manukau heads Signal Station (which has a Munro and now casting station, as well as radar,,,and an amaxing view (if not in the clouds), and then a visit to the wild west coast, and out house here on Grahams Beach Road, and my setup :)

what do you think, a nice drive in the country..the Awhitu Peninsular is a nice drive). Allow about 1 hour from Manukau City.

:D

Brian,

I wish I didn't live so far away, as what you are planning sounds quite interesting.

What would be interesting is 4 hours due north on an airplane and even the thunder watchers,NZTS,NZ Storm etc may even see more Ts than we get with this stratus sheet raincloud and wintry gales 8)

I wonder what the weather will be like on Sunday. ECMRF has a trough over the region. I should be able to make it. :)

I would like to come but the obvious is I'm down here unfortunately...hope you guys have a good day.

If you do something like this next year it should be good provided it's arranged a bit earlier. I wouldn't of been able to come to this meeting if it had of been arranged earlier so that's cool anyway. I'm going up to Wellington soon but that'll be as far north as I go this year. I think I should come up next year maybe when storms are forecast in the Waikato if I can, I have a plan in mind!!

hey, check out this new thing you can do with weather display software (via xAP and a xAP enabled desktop application)
Image

i.e its shows the latest weather data, updated every few seconds, and its see through....move the mouse over it, and it disappears
its always on top of what ever you are working :)
xAP means that in the future, say, the fridge could find out the latest weather data via TCP/IP and , say, weather display could know how much beer is left in the fridge!

plan of action:

after introducitons, unwind here, then head off to the west coast
then back here for lunch
then straight after lunch up the signal station....hopefully its not in the clouds....we might reverse that order depending on the weather!

car pooling...good idea!
maybe even Ricky good join ya!
and nz storm?
how big is the car?

ah, but the NWer does not make it inland very well....it tends to be best along the coast line...(i.e it was a pressure wind running down the coast line, ahead of the approaching front (it peaked at 11am...about that time there was nice looking lenticular clouds over the waitekere ranges....)
38 knot average recorded here :)
