:( not so good down my way, no sun yesterday at all - foggy all day and a max temp of only 3.4 degrees.

No much change today either plenty fog with the sun trying to get throught and temperature has just reached into the postive territory for the first time.

oh well of to australia on saturday for 7 days can't wait !!! :)

Yes Micheal, even though I'm a Ts orientated person its good to see the sun out down here (Chch) to :) with little breeze at all although it would be better if the temp was slightly higher.

Cheers

Lucky you Whenever I went overseas I always hoped Depression after Depression crossed over the south Island and when I arrived back a big high would settle over(this worked in Australia anyway) as Australia had dry conditions with a westerly type flow.

Often what happened is a big high would sit east of the country and on my arrival a low would cross the country from Cape Reianga to the chathams and have that "wonderful Sou' Wester" :(

Well another day of low cloud and freezing temps (currently 2 degees in Alexandra with a cold north west wind)

Here's hoping for some sunshine this afternoon as the northwest picks up and blows the cold air out of the basins.

But who cares, cause i will be in 20 plus degrees tomorrow.

While winter takes a grip on the south... ;)

That sounds strange. I presume the northwest wind is very light - anything more should blow away low cloud and deliver higher daytime temperatures in places east of the main ranges (like Alexandra).

Another sunny day here in Chch, after a good morning frost.

The NW wind looks like a "cold one" coming across the tasman even in Australia its not tropical and theyre in a Northerly and the low in the bight will probably give them a cold change in the weekend

Yep it didn’t warm up much even when the cloud and fog finally did burn off.

Top today 5.4 degrees c

But the fog is back and the wind has dropped off again so who knows when it will go.

I hope you go overseas more often then, Michael, I get sick and annoyed when ridge after ridge moves over the South Island and the North Island gets the lion's share of the 'good' weather !! Aaron would agree too!

I've been watching a line of cb's off to the north and north east all morning, looking at the satelite picture I recon this one is up near Whangarei (approx 100 km away)

Its quite "funny" on the satellite map today how a vent of cloud can be seen coming out from Cooks strait past Wanganui and Taranaki and over to the far north(You often see the cbs as in the picture above often lined along the eastern ranges of the NI in a SE

There has been some pretty cool mornings recently.

I know the guys in the South Island will laugh at us (hey did you know Speights is made in Auckland? ;) ), but the nights up here in Auck have been very cold... 3.3 degrees when I got up to let the cat in last night!

Cheers,

A week of sunshine in Ashburton, with heavy frosts at night.
Im heading to Franz Josef for 3 nights on Saturday so should experience some heavy West Coast rain on Sat/Sun looking at the forecast.
Looking like a nice day to climb the glacier on Monday.
Cheers. :) .

Exciting weather across the ditch at the moment, lots of snow in the alpine areas, with snow forecast to 500 metres in Victoria tonight.
Looks like some record cold temperatures for southern Queensland as well.
More of the same here, heavy frosts, our driveway was white at 7.00pm this evening.Looking forward to the warmer West Coast tommorrow.
Cheers.
