did you guys see the reports of trees blown over etc around the tasman area?
the isobar map showed a very squahed zone, due to a classic lee trough east of the SI.. (due to the slow moving high to the NNW of the NI ) in fact there was a small high plotted east of ChCH !

Today was shaping up to be another warm one in Chch. Yes it was warm this morning, but then, I believe, a sneaky southerly (or southeasterly according to TV1 Weather) arrived sometime about midday. No related change in the weather (northwest arch high cloud), but the temperature dropped significantly. And the forecast is still for warm conditions through tomorrow. I wish.

MetService's severe weather warning of severe gales was for areas between inland Canterbury and Hawkes Bay, not for Motueka and Golden Bay, which seemed to get the worst of them in reality.
